Relevant work experience and how it relates to Toastmasters and your role as a District leader:
Having worked in the Business sector for most of my life, as well as the training and development in the Hospitality sector, realising the potential of my staff and members is critical in any organisation.
What experience do you have in strategic planning?
In my personal life I owned 3 shops with 22 employees, when I took over my 1st shop I put in to place a 5 year plan. Each year had a set of goals to get to the 5 year objective. The objective was realised in 4 years.
In Toastmasters, I became President of MIM TMC of Johor Bahru, I formulated a strategic plan after I had surveyed the members and what there goals were for the term. The club became President Distinguised in 4 months.
What experience do you have in the area of finance?
I studied and passed a certificate in bookkeeping and accounts, City and Guilds Computerised Accounts level 2, when I acquired my businesses. This has helped me personally and profesionally. I diligently take note of everything I spend, it has become a habit, it is recorded in my accounts book.
I have a Ltd Company in the Maldives all the financial transaction and accounts is approved by me. I write and submit all the Financial and Directors reports to the Inland Revenue of Maldives.
What experience do you have in developing procedures?
Owning my own businesess sometimes from scratch, having policies and procedures in place is paramount for the success of the business.
What lessons did you learn from previous leadership positions?
All leadership positions are different, as the President of MIM TMC of Johor Bahru, I found that the members responded and were motivated, if you involved them in the decision-making.
As the Area Director, with initially 3 Clubs, I had to gauge the leadership skills of the Presidents, then adjust my skills to act accordingly.
In your opinion, what are the District mission’s major objectives and how would you work to achieve them?
My Opinion is that Members are the most important aspect of Toastmasters, and should be at the forefront of the objectives No members no Toastmasters.
